At Heartbeat Midwifery, you’ll be cared for by a team of experienced, compassionate professionals dedicated to safe, respectful, and personalized care.
Our midwives bring decades of combined experience, including advanced training in breech, VBAC, and twin births. Many have served internationally, trained students, and exceeded state licensure requirements. Clients often tell us they value our warmth, professionalism, and commitment to informed choice.
Our team-based model means you’re never relying on just one person. You benefit from multiple perspectives, a variety of strengths—like herbal knowledge, suturing, research, and clinical insight—and a second set of eyes when it matters most. Your midwife is well-supported, rested, and never carrying the full weight of clinic and birth alone.
Each practitioner brings their own personality, but we all follow the same standards, protocols, and shared purpose. We support one another’s growth—personally and professionally—so we can provide the highest quality care and ensure long-term sustainability for our team and the families we serve.

I enjoy every phase of the childbearing year. It’s a joy and honor to create a space where families feel safe, supported, and free to birth on their own terms!”
Jenna Shudall
Certified Professional & Licensed Midwife

Jenna trained at a busy international maternity clinic, where she worked alongside birth professionals from nearly a dozen countries and gained hands-on experience in a wide range of birth settings. She went on to support families throughout the Pacific Northwest as both a midwife and doula.
After experiencing out-of-hospital birth from the perspective of a mother, she developed an even deeper respect for peaceful, autonomous birth. She’s now honored to bring her global perspective and grounded presence to the Heartbeat team.
“Being part of this team and walking with families through their birth stories is a true privilege.”
Kayla Allen
Certified Professional Midwife

Kayla began her midwifery journey in 2017 and trained at GoMidwife in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. She gained valuable experience working at a small birth center for three years before stepping back to focus on raising her own family. She later completed her training at Heartbeat and now serves as a staff midwife.
Kayla is grounded, empathetic, and deeply committed to supporting families during the most transformative season of their lives.
“It’s a gift to walk with families through such a sacred and transformative time. I’m honored to offer steady, compassionate support as they welcome new life with strength and confidence.”
Our Student Midwives are highly trained and carefully supervised as they grow into skilled, confident practitioners. By the time they graduate, they’ve attended between 100 and 150 births—far beyond the 55 required for licensure. They are trained in essential skills like suturing, hemorrhage management, and newborn resuscitation, and are certified in CPR and NRP. We hold our students to high standards of professionalism, communication, and teamwork. They play an important role in your care and are always supported by a licensed midwife during clinic visits and births.
Kelly Dougherty
Student Midwife

Kelly brings a rich background in birth, having worked as a labor and delivery nurse and a birth doula. Her passion for midwifery was born from her own personal experiences and a desire to help women trust their bodies in the natural birth process.
She’s especially passionate about challenging the fear-based narratives surrounding childbirth and helping women feel strong, informed, and supported.
“I truly believe God has led me here. I’ve seen how strong and capable women are, and I feel so blessed to walk alongside them during one of the most meaningful times in life.”
Ellie Edwards
Student Midwife

Ellie grew up in a big family on a small farm, where the rhythms of nature and the wonder of God’s creation shaped her early years. Witnessing life unfold around her, she developed a deep awe for the everyday miracles woven into the world. That sense of reverence stayed with her—and eventually led her to midwifery, where she now walks alongside others during one of life’s most precious journeys.
She is drawn to the strength and beauty of women during birth and brings joy, curiosity, and a gentle presence to the families she serves.
”I am continually inspired by the strength and awe-inspiring abilities God has gifted women. To witness the miracle of life and walk beside them through such a profound, sanctifying journey is a blessing beyond words.”
From your first call to your final visit, our office staff is here to make you feel seen, supported, and cared for.
