My heartbeat birth story - first baby - Heartbeat Midwifery

{ My heartbeat Birth story }

I've been mulling over my birth story for days now after seeing your post and this is what I finally put together. Writing it all out brought back so many feelings. What an incredible experience it was to be able to birth with you all.

Thank you for the care and support you gave me during such a vulnerable and powerful time. I truly couldn't imagine a better environment or group of women to have done this with and I hope so much that I get to do it again with you in the future.

This was my first baby and going into labor I was scared. Not in a dramatic way just in that heavy way where you know everything is about to change and you have no idea how it's actually going to feel.

At my 38 week midwife my blood pressure was high and wouldn't come down. The midwives were honest with me. They told me we needed to get the baby out. I was already a little dilated so they explained my options and sent me home with a clear plan. I was nervous, but well informed and supported.

Labor started that night at home. Contractions began around 8pm and were manageable at first. I was able to sleep through most of the night luckily. Early that morning I lost my mucus plug, laid back down, and not long after felt a pop, like a water balloon, and knew my water had broken. Oh boy were the contractions bad after that. They were close together and overwhelming. My doula and my husband did all they could to keep me comfortable until it was time to head to the birth center.

By 9:15am we were on our way to the birth center and during the car ride I started pushing without meaning to. I swear we hit every red light possible. When we arrived I immediately felt different. The room was calm. Quiet. It didn't feel like this scary medical event it felt like a space where I was allowed to trust my body.
